假如某个月黑风高的夜里，有美女前来敲门，我想，一般而言答案有三个：其一，这女子，是不是传说中放鸽子的那类人？其二，她神经是不是有问题？其三，她是否走错门了？来找我这个穷汉做什么？
大约1400年前，有一个叫李靖的才子拜访当朝国相杨素回来，也遇到了类似的事情。这个踌躇满志的青年人估计当时正在雪夜里敲着床帮唱小曲，他所居住的客栈的门“笃笃”地响了。拉开客栈的门，门外站着一个穿着锦绣衣服的人，尽管是在寂静的暗夜，李靖还是可以通过身材判断出对方的性别。那小女子先是把手指放到嘴唇上“嘘”了一下，然后就不客气地挤进了门。

小女子大方地告诉他，自己就是今天在杨素身边手执红拂的小丫头，因为看中了李靖的一副魁伟和英气，所以故而来投奔。那意思很简单：李靖，我今天就是你的人了。
