Song Dynasty: Wang Yuanliang's Poetry Collection: A Dazzling Chapter of Literary Material, Historical Figures, and Events

Wang Yuanliang (1241-1317 AD) was a poet, writer, and court musician of the Southern Song dynasty. He was known for his skill in playing the zither and was once appointed to serve as a palace musician. When the capital city fell in 1276 AD, he accompanied the royal family to flee northwards. In 1288 AD, he renounced worldly life to become a Daoist priest and returned south later that year. He spent his remaining years traveling between Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan provinces before settling down by Lake Mountain.

Wang's poetry is renowned for its vivid descriptions of natural scenery and historical events during the tumultuous period following the fall of Southern Song dynasty. His works are often compared with those of Du Fu (712-770 AD), another celebrated Chinese poet.
